Singapore began two days of verbal presentations on the Pedra Branca dispute today, while Malaysia will launch its counter-arguments on Wednesday. Singapores Ambassador-At-Large Professor Tommy Koh said that the Singapore team has prepared well for their presentations today: We are in good shape. We have all done our first draft of our second-round statements. The team is energized (and) ready to go. On Malaysias presentation at the International Court of Justice so far, Professor Koh said: The Malaysian team was extremely eloquent and they succeeded because of their eloquence in putting forward a much better case than the intrinsic case of Malaysia. The island of Pedra Branca and its two surrounding out-crops, Middle Rocks and South Ledge, lie at the eastern entrance to the Strait of Singapore.

What the heck is the difference among all those Canon ELPHs anyway?
As I mentioned in my last post, I'm a big fan of Canon's Digital ELPH series, but I can't tell you how many times friends have called me from Best Buy in a state of confusion about which one to buy. It's no wonder. Stop into any electronics store today and you'll find a slew of ELPH models and they all look pretty similar to the untrained eye. So here's a quick primer on what's what, broken down by resolution (since for better or for worse, that's how most people seem to shop for cameras). For comparison's sake, I included current pricing from Amazon.com. 12.1 Megapixels Canon PowerShot SD950 IS ($340) - released August 2007: This is Canon's current top-of-the-line model (successor to last year's SD900 which you'll still find in some stores). It sports a sleek, rugged titanium body, 3.7x optical zoom lens (36- to 133mm), an Optical Image Stabilizer, Canon's latest face-detection autofocus technology, in-camera red-eye correction, and like all the current ELPHs, uses Canon's top-end DIGIC III image processor.

Marlowe Harris, one of the P-I real estate bloggers, sent me a blurb about something new to try on New Year's Day. It involves wearing a tacky tracksuit and donning a bad wig. There is a meet-up at Green Lake, and the track-suited, wig-wearing mob enjoys a nice walk around the lake en masse. Or there's always the Polar Bear Dip, whereby one relaxes in the 44-degree waters of the Puget Sound with others. I opted for the less public and much warmer option, the New Year's Resolution. This year, I have two. The first one is to delete, without guilt, any self-esteem themed e-mails, especially if it is required that I forward it to all my female friends in order for a wish to come true. Throughout the year I received this type of egospam, and last month I received an e-mail that had an especially massive list of "feel good about yourself no matter what" missives.
Toomer now realizes playoffs are special moment

Now, more marketers are turning to theaters to unveil new campaigns on 40-foot screens with rich audio before they scale down the ads and put them on television.
For some in the advertising industry, the recent writer's strike shined a new light on cinema opportunities.
Ad-buying behemoth MediaVest, whose client roster includes Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Kraft Foods Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co., began talks last month with leading cinema ad companies Screenvision and National CineMedia LLC about transferring more than $100 million of prime-time ads from television to the movie screen.
"Even without the writer's strike, should that not have happened, we'd still be talking to our clients about looking at their current communications mix," said Norm Chait, MediaVest's senior vice president and director of out-of-home investment and activation.
